Painting this bright little oil study gave me a real lift, lots of contrast in color and value always makes me happy.  Trying to depict movement in the back of the neck was a challenge but I am pleased with the result.

Australian Koala Painting

I decided to paint this cute Australian native animal for Sophia, the young daughter of a friend of mine who lives in the UK.  Thought it would be nice to for Sophia to have a little bit of Australia to enjoy.

I really like the strong tonal value contrast, abstracted background and red ground of this small work.  Really enjoyed the experimentation.

My goal in this work was to concentrate on brushwork and capturing movement .  I am quite pleased with the result and feel that I am making progress which motivates me to keep trying.

Tasmanian Devil

This small impressionistic oil painting is one of a series of animal works which I have been doing recently for some children.
The young boy is very interested in the Tasmanian Devil, so I decided to paint this for him.  Really happy with the progress I am making with my brushwork and very much enjoying the process.  I am using the "Ivory" range(flats) hand made by Rosemary & Co. in the UK., and they have had a huge impact on the way I am now painting, best brushes I have ever used!

Winter Wolf

I really enjoyed doing this small impressionistic painting today, first time I have done something like this and I am very happy with the result.  Tried to keep everything loose and painterly and decided to abstract the background, so there is a bit of everything in there, lots of fun and experimentation.

My Little Chickadee

My husband and I have had a lot of poultry over the years, including Light Sussex, a particular favourite of mine.  We have also had Red Sussex and Speckled Sussex, very pretty chickens. they make great painting subjects.

Chicken And Lavender Still life

I recently found this little ceramic watering can so decided to put a few lavender blooms in it and add my favourite little chicken ornament, plus another tiny flower(not quite sure what it is) and paint this small still life.
Strong value contrasts and rich colours, my favourite combination.

A Calf Named Ivory

Loved painting this pretty calf, her mother is a black cow named Ebony and her sire is a large Hereford bull.
Ivory is mostly black and white but has the reddish Hereford colouring showing through her coat.

Grevillea Still Life

I love grevilleas as they attract so many nectar feeding birds, lots of pretty little honeyeaters.
I am able to watch them from my studio when I am painting, they bring me a lot of joy and remind me of our Creator.

I have been wanting to paint this handsome pair for quite some time, finally managed it....hooray!
The breed of the hen is Sussex and the rooster is a Rhode Island Red.

Bush Lemon Sliced

My favourite lemons again, this time sliced and ready to eat.  These old bush lemons are quite mild and nice to eat.  I decided to keep this little painting bright and cheerful as I have been struggling with my health issues lately and needed a boost.

Ancient History

Just love these old bush shacks.  They are scattered all over rural Australia and make such great painting subjects.  This old timer has certainly been around awhile.

Bush Lemon On Black

Decided to paint this wild bush lemon with stalk and spindly leaves still attached with a black background to add a bit of contrast and drama.  The overall design really appealed to me as well.

Bush Lemons

This small oil study was done over a black ground which I think enhances the colors of this painting.
A lot of very old lemon trees are growing wild on this farm, the fruit is an old fashioned variety known in rural Australia as bush lemons.  They make a great painting subject as they are much rougher and more interesting than the newer smooth varieties.  They also taste very nice, mostly eaten with a touch of salt.

Chinese Tea Jug and Camelias

Decided to pluck a couple of camelias from the garden and combine with a pretty little Chinese tea jug, a present from a Chinese friend.  I thought they would make a cheerful little painting.

Bush Mandarins

Oil painting on board 4.5in x 6in.  This is the smallest of my daily paintings so far.  These two mandarins were the first to ripen on the tree so decided to paint them, but intend to do more mandarin studies as the fruit becomes available.  Lots of mandarin trees on this property, great for painting and eating!

Chloe The Whippet

This latest small painting is a quick study of our whippet, Chloe.  She often has a unique way of laying down and creates all of these lovely shapes with her body, legs, etc.  She also enjoys the attention she gets and will pose like this for ages.

We have a large pear tree in a paddock near our house which has had the most beautifully coloured autumn leaves.  Could not resist including them in this small painting with a bright little corella pear.
